Instructions for Disinfecting and Sterilising OWD Oral Mirrors

Procedure for personal use:

A. Disinfecting with Isopropyl Alcohol

1 Preparation:

  • Ensure you're working in a clean, dry area.
  • Wear gloves to maintain hygiene and protect your skin.

2 Cleaning with Isopropyl Alcohol:

  • Open the small gauze pad with isopropyl alcohol included in your kit
  • Wipe the oral mirror thoroughly, ensuring all surfaces are adequately covered.
  • Allow the alcohol to remain in contact with the mirror for at least 5 minutes to ensure effective disinfection.
  • Let the mirror air dry and place back in original pack provided 

 

B. Disinfecting with Hydrogen Peroxide

  • A 3% hydrogen peroxide solution is commonly available and can be used for disinfecting purposes.
  • To use, soak the oral mirror in the solution for about 10-15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water.
  • This process can help kill bacteria and viruses, though it is less effective than professional-grade disinfectants for sterilization purposes.

C. Disinfecting with Sodium Hypochlorite (Bleach)

  • Household bleach typically contains a 5-6% sodium hypochlorite solution.
    Dilute bleach with water to a ratio of 1 part bleach to 9 parts water (a 1:10 dilution).
  • Soak the oral mirror in the solution for about 5-10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water to avoid corrosive damage or residue.
  • Ensure good ventilation when using bleach and avoid mixing it with other cleaners to prevent harmful
